SAYRE — Athens jumped out 22-2 in their 50-31 win over Sayre in NTL girls' basketball cross-over action Friday. Shanell Baglini led the Wildcats with 15 points and four assists while Emily Lunger added 10 points. Morgan Westbrook and Breana Gambrell had seven points each with Westbrook adding five steals and Gambrell nabbing seven boards. Ariana Gambrell had five points and four steals, Reagan Lynch scored three points, Kaitlyn Testen netted two while Hannah Reid had one. Paige Wampole led Sayre with 13 points while Camry Lane netted six.
Molly Ball scored five, Kaeli Sutryk had four and Andi Noldy notched three. Athens won the JV game 44-21 behind 14 points from Ariana Gambrell. The Wildcats are at Williamsport today with a noon JV start. Troy 37, Williamson 34 Behind 21 points from Sam Gentile the Lady Trojans picked up an NTL girls' basketball win Friday. Williamson led 23-17 going into the fourth quarter where Troy outscored them 18-11 for the win.
Gentile had nine points in the deciding quarter while also getting 17 rebounds, five blocks and two steals in the contest. Carla Proto added seven points with 11 boards for Troy while Autumn Gilbert scored three with three rebounds. Madison McClelland, Roxanne Kingsley and Marissa Bulkley had two points apiece. Bulkley added two steals, McClelland had two rebounds and three steals, Kingsley had six boards and Stephanie Pazzaglia chipped in with three steals and two assists.
'I'm so proud of the way the ladies rallied together in the fourth quarter,' said Troy coach Brian Burchard. 'It was a total team effort tonight.' From there they pulled away outscoring them 13-9 in the third quarter and 18-10 in the fourth. Lydia Werner had 19 points, five boards, four assists and three steals to lead the Panthers while Macy Wilks had a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards while adding three assists, two steals and five blocks.
Megan Brown had eight points, three assists and three steals, Annie Williams had three points, two boards, two assists and two steals, Shelby Park had two points and four boards, Anna Wheaton had two points and three rebounds and Emalee Allis had two points. Bridget Haverly chipped in with five boards. Madeline Edsell led the Rams with 10 points while Brook Force scored six.
Tyler Herro had 16 points, Keldon Johnson added 15 and No. 10 Kentucky cruised past Monmouth 90-44 for its sixth consecutive victory. The Wildcats (6-1) never trailed, though the winless Eagles (0. Towanda 36, Canton 25 A big third quarter for the Black Knights, led by Ali Daum's 12 points, gave them an NTL girls' basketball win Friday. Canton led 13-11 at the half but Towanda outscored them 15-6 in the third.
The Knights would outscore them 10-6 in the fourth to secure the win. Daum had 23 points to lead all scorers while adding 13 boards. Kayla Miller added six points, nine boards and two assists, Cearra McLinko netted three points while Kinslee Kriner and Kendra Abrams had two points apiece. Abrams had eight boards and four blocks while Courtney Bennett handed out three assists.
Alexa Roy had 12 points to lead the Warriors while Lizzy Tymeson scored six. MacKayla Wesneski netted four with Lacy Castle scoring three. Towanda won the JV game 27-26 behind 15 from Sydney Schoonover. Tamara Hess had nine to lead Canton. Towanda is at NEB next Wednesday. Wellsboro 55, North Penn-Liberty 35 The Hornets held the Mountaineers to just 10 made baskets in their NTL girls' basketball cross-over win Friday.
The game was close after three quarters with Wellsboro up 35-27 but a 20-8 run in the fourth secured the win for them. Led the Hornets with 14 points and 13 rebounds while netted 13 points and had 12 points and 14 boards.
And had six points each with netting four. Ingerick also had three steals and two blocks. Chelsea Repard led NPL with 15 points while Michaela Schmouder netted 10. Britta Berguson scored six while Emily Harris and Marissa Harer had two points each.
Wellsboro won the JV game 33-7 behind 14 points from. Northern Potter 54, Galeton 36 NoPo outscored the Tigers 40-22 over the final three quarters of the game to pick up the North Tier League girls' basketball win Friday.
